Creekside Pavillion

Mountain Brook, Alabama

The pavillion is a backyard get-away for both inward reflection and connection with the tranquil wooded surroundings. The Project consists of an interior relaxation room and an exterior view room that overlooks a creek running through the Owner’s property.  The Owner desired a “well-designed” structure that needed to be “buildable” enough to self-construct. Located on the edge of a rock formation overlooking the creek, the structure was designed as a layering of transparency.  Closest to the house, the structure begins as a primarily opaque wall and transitions to a transparent wall at the opposite end. The design intent was to block the hustle and bustle of the everyday life at the residence and open up to the tranquility of the creek side surroundings.
